After thorough research and study of the data collected, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II built stone instruments to determine the position of planetary bodies and measure time. Jaipur Jantar Mantar was built between 1728-1734 and its stone tools are considered more accurate than others.

1. Large memory device: giant trunk
The huge Smart Yantra is a huge trunk, which is placed in the center of Jantar Mantar Observatory. It is 27 meters long and is situated at the highest position in the world. The Samrat Yantra, translated as 'supreme instrument' is an equinox sundial and measures time to an accuracy of two seconds.
The shadow of the triangular wall of the yantra reaching north-south direction with the same angle of latitude of this place, covers the same distance in equal intervals of time on the eastern and western quadrants. This movement is standardized to calculate and explain local time.
2. Laghu Smrit Yantra
Popular as a memorial device, it is small in size and calculates time to an accuracy of twenty seconds. The ramp of this Sundial points towards the North Pole,
so the time of Jaipur can be easily calculated from the position of the shadow of the ramp on finely divided divisions of the carved scale. The shadow of the triangular wall of the device tells the local time.
3. Ram Yantra
The Rama Yantra measures the height and azimuth of the Sun and planets. The apparatus consists of a pair of tube-shaped structures, open to the sky. Each structure has a pole of equal height in the center.
The scales reflecting the elevation and azimuth angles of terrestrial bodies are carved inside the walls of these structures. Ram Yantra is seen only at Jantar Mantar in Jaipur and New Delhi.
4. Jaya Lighting Device
It is another major attraction at Jantar Mantar in Jaipur. The device consists of two hemispherical bowls, such as sundials with sorted marble slabs.
The inverted image of the sky falls on the slabs and the movement of the inverted shadows helps to locate the height, azimuth, the angle of the hour and the exact position of the heavenly bodies.
5. Chakra Yantra
The Chakra Yantra, Jantar Mantar, Jaipur is a ring instrument that calculates the co-coordinates and the hour angle of the Sun.
It consists of four semi-circular arcs, on which the trunk throws a shadow, so dedicates four times a day to the proclamation of the Sun.
6. Digama
Another means of Jantar Mantar is Digama. It is a pillar in the middle of two concentric outer circles, which helps in predicting the time of sunrise and sunset in a day.
7. Nadvalay
Nadivalaya represents the two hemispheres of the earth, with a pair of circular plates, facing north and south. The wall of the plates is bent on such a gradient, that the device is always parallel to the Earth's equator.

A visit to Jantar Mantar in Jaipur is not complete if you skip the Karna fast. It is a special device that is used to measure the solar sign of the sun during the day.
